Cheftimony Episode 047 – Raquel’s Farm

Through the course of our conversation, you’ll meet Raquel’s Berkshire pigs Bobo and Bella, along with a host of turkeys, chickens, sheep… even an alpaca!

Today we’re taking a road trip to a beautiful farm on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. My guest is Raquel Kolof, a farmer who’s a champion of regenerative agriculture and simply a great person to speak with on the topics of animals, the land, and food. Raquel showed me around her beautiful Hough Heritage Farm and then we sat on the porch for a wonderful talk in the spring sunshine.

Through the course of our conversation, you’ll meet Raquel’s Berkshire pigs Bobo and Bella, along with a host of turkeys, chickens, sheep… even an alpaca! We talk about just how critical soil is, not only to farming but to the larger world. And we dive into the “high” cost of well-produced food and what’s needed to start to change that perception. Raquel also shares some of her favourite ways to prepare her delicious heritage-breed chickens. And that discussion brings us to…

…SideBar, a brand-new segment on Cheftimony. Joining me for the inaugural episode of SideBar is banking-lawyer-turned-wine-explorer Tania Tomaszewska of TT Wine Counsel. You might remember Tania from an earlier episode of the show, Wine and Wifi. Today, Tania shares some recommendations for great food wines from BC’s wine islands region to pair with the delicious chicken dishes that Raquel describes.

So step right this way… it’s time for our trip to Raquel’s farm.
